Never again Sep 29, 2024

I had to once for an urgent task on some web-based platform being stuck in a winter traffic jam... Never again, it's too bad for eyes.

Never Sep 29, 2024

Nothing like an old-fashioned PC with a comfortable keyboard and a large screen.

The question is a little ambiguous. Does answering e-mails in a hurry count as a translation-related task? If yes, then I'm very much guilty. Otherwise, it wouldn't occur to me to actually work on a translation from a 6-inch touchscreen.

I agree. I used it once but found it really tiring, my eyes kept stinging then and for a long time after. Also you tend to miss mistakes and the auto-correct function makes your work doubly difficult and time consuming. Definitely never again. I thought of trying it out so i could do it on the move in buses or while waiting for some appointment or other but regretted it.

There is a difference between saying "for translation tasks" and "for translation-related tasks".

Would never even consider it Sep 30, 2024

There are things you don't need "to try to see if it works", like running on ice, or using a mobile phone for any kind of serious work.

A small screen, no finger sized keyboard, a battery that can die any moment and usually does when maximally inconvenient, an OS and user interface that feels dumbed down compared to a laptop or PC, why would anyone want a better "working tool"? All that spiced up by the ambient noise of some busy street ...

And if I get an offer, I also reply to accept it.

I once translated three words on my phone because of some computer problem.
I wouldn't ever envisage doing more than that.

Other than that, yes, I answer emails if I'm out when work comes in. Mostly to say something like "OK I'll look at this once I'm home, by 3pm at the latest"
