Реальная действительность, узнаваемая как неожиданное столкновение с самим собой, — основная тема раскрашенной деревянной и терракотовой скульптуры, бронзовой миниатюры Валерия Пирогова. Граница между произведением и зрителем у Пирогова чрезвычайно подвижна. Его работы тяготеют к разрушению барьера между реальностями — естественной и сконструированной, между жизнью и искусством.
Скульптор выбирает для себя позицию наблюдателя, иногда с любовью подсмеивается над своими персонажами. Прозаический сюжет в скульптурных композициях Пирогова незаметно превращается в тонкую лирическую поэзию, исполненную мудрости и человечности. В воплощении мастера каждый миг повседневного существования неповторим и значителен. Поэтому путники, остановившиеся для беседы, фигура ветерана, сидящего на настоящем стуле, воспринимаются не восковыми слепками из музея мадам Тюссо, а живыми и трогательными персонажами современной жизни. Скульптура Пирогова интересна включением в нее примет среды обитания человека. Большей частью это природный ландшафт — зеленые лужайки, птицы, бабочки («Лето», «Рыболов», «Девочка с птичками») или просто ствол дерева, разделяющий старушку мать и ее сына солдата («Мать и солдат»). При всей естественности природных мотивов они являются символами судьбы, состояния души, ее взлета в юности или обреченного сидения возле птичьего насеста в старости. Течение человеческой жизни — от детской открытости миру до печальных воспоминаний о былом — составляет по сути эмоциональный и тематический диапазон творчества скульптора. Композиционно и пластически скульптура Пирогова очень разнообразна и богата нюансами. Любая поверхность его работ ощущается поверхностью человеческого тела, наполненного жизнью.
Светлая, радостная раскраска поверхности дерева или терракоты, создающая декоративный эффект, порой соседствует с гротесковостью. Лирик по природе своего таланта, Валерий Пирогов представляется хранителем важных традиций искусства. Развитое чутье и такт, любовь ко всему, чем живет человек, позволяет скульптору одухотворять простейший сюжет, показывать естественную красоту в повседневности.
Гротеск, ирония — отличительная особенность творческого мышления Александра Ковалева. Его камерного размера работы, выполненные в бронзе, пародируют известные в культуре образы или превращают давно пережитое в новое, незнакомое. «Иван-царевич» Ковалева, представленный немощным стариком, «Икар», тщетно пытающийся взлететь, или задумчивый «Циклоп» — эти дегероизированные персонажи сказок и мифов больше говорят о современности, чем о литературном прошлом. Художник «сталкивает» привычное имя и судьбу персонажа с его новым воплощением. Определенная доза язвительности, свойственная художественному языку мастера, диалог с мифологией, органично соединяющей правду с вымыслом, создают вокруг скульптуры Ковалева поле неоднозначных смыслов. Многозначность закладывается как необходимое условие восприятия произведения, предполагающего максимальную зрительскую свободу. Уподобляя «Циклопа» мыслителю, воплощая в фигуре «Икара» страстное желание полета, сдерживаемого тяжестью аморфного тела, скульптор находит пластическую метафору судьбы, характера, его ирония подчас приобретает привкус утраченной надежды или разрушенной мечты. Отдавая предпочтение литературным персонажам, художник с удовольствием обращается и к образам иного плана: «Укротительница», «Танцовщица» или просто «Лягушка», «Клякс» выразительны благодаря артистической деформации пропорций. Пластический диссонанс форм подчеркивает профессию или природу персонажа, а главное — необычайную пластическую свободу. Кажется, что мастер видит своего героя еще в бесформенной массе материала, и эта «неоформленность» подспудно проступает в его скульптурных образах. Существенная черта работ Ковалева — стремление автора выявить и показать процесс становления скульптурной формы. Часто природа его героев двойственна: полулюди, полуптицы или животные, фантастические персонажи созданы силой воображения художника. Скульптор проявляет редкую свободу в управлении формой осуществления своей идеи. Опосредованная авторской иронией материя бронзовых тел сохраняет текучую изменчивость, и сама изменчивость скульптурной массы воспринимается как образная суть произведения, не имеющая однозначного, «затвердевшего» во времени толкования...
Переклад - англійська ... Reality, discovered as unexpected self- conflict, is the main theme of painted wooden and terracotta sculpture and bronze miniature of Valery Pirogov. In Pirogov’s works bounds between a composition and a spectator is very mobile. His works are attracted by destruction of a barrier between realities – natural and constructed, between life and art.
The sculptor chooses for himself a role of an observer, he sometimes laughs with love at his heroes. In Pirogov’s sculptural compositions a prose subject imperceptibly changes into fine lyric poetry filled with wisdom and humanity. Each moment of daily existence embodied by master is unique and significant. That’s why travelers paused for a talk, and a figure of a veteran sitting on a real chair, are perceived not as waxen copies from Madam Tussauds’ Museum, but as vivid and touching characters of modern life. Pirogov’s sculpture attracts by implementing of human environment signs. Mainly it is a nature landscape – green grass-plots, birds, butterflies (“Summer”, “A fisher”, “A girl with birds”) or simply a trunk of tree separating an old mother from her sun – a soldier (“A Mother and a Soldier”). While being quite real natural motives are the symbols of destiny, of a soul state, soul’s ascent in youth age or doomed for sitting near a bird roost in old ages. Course of a human life – from childhood’s openness to world up to sad memories about the past – as a matter of fact makes emotional and thematic range of sculpture’s creative work. By composition and plastic Pirogov’s sculpture is vary various and rich for nuances. Any surface of his works is felt as surface of a human body filled with life.
Light and joyful painting of wood or terracotta surface, which creates decorative effect, is accompanied at times by grotesque. Born with lyric native talent, Valery Pirogov seems to be a keeper of important art traditions. With feeling and tact highly developed, artist’s love for every natural need a human being has allows the sculpture to inspire the simplest topic, to show natural beauty in daily life.
Grotesque, irony is a distinguishing feature of creative thinking of Alexander Kovalev. His chamber works made in bronze parody well-known cultural images or change the remote into a new, unknown. “Ivan Czarevich” represented by Kovalev as an sick old man, “Icar” vainly trying to flight, or pensive “Cyclop” – these “non-hero” figures of tales and myths tell more about present times than about the literary past. The master “knocks” together a usual name and destiny of a character with its new embodiment. A certain doze of sarcasm as being nature of master’s art language, a dialog with mythology, which naturally combines true reality and fantasy, creates around Kovalev’s sculpture a field of non-ordinary senses. Polysemy is considered as a base of essential condition of perception of a work supposing the maximum spectators freedom. Comparing “Cyclop” with a thinker, embodying in “Icar” figure passionate wish of flying that is held by weight of an amorphous body, the sculptor finds plastic metaphor of destiny, of character; his irony gets sometimes a trace of hope lost or dream blighted. Giving preference to literary figures the master gladly appeals also to figures of other type: “An Animal tamer”, “A Dancer” or simply “A Frog”, “A Smudge” – all they’re impressive because of artistic deformation of proportions. Plastic dissonance of forms emphasizes the profession or nature of a hero, and mainly – extraordinary plastic freedom. It seems that the master recognizes his hero at the stage of formless material mass, and this “shapeless state” latently appears in his sculpture images. Essential character of Kovalev’s works is author’s aspiration for revealing and showing the process of making a sculpture form. Very often nature of his heroes is dual: semi-people, semi-birds or semi-animals, these fantastic images are created by imagination force of the artist. The sculptor shows peculiar freedom in controlling the realization form of his idea. Mediated by master’s irony the matter of bronze bodies keeps its fluctuating inconstancy and this inconstancy of sculptural mass is taken as figurative heart of a work, without simple, “hardened” temporal interpretation...
