It’s difficult for me to speak of balance when referring to freelance work. The reality is that I’m either flooded with work (like now) or I’ve nothing to do at all (like last week). Anyway, I am perfectly happy with my situation, work sometimes overrides everything else, but I enjoy it. I live alone, so I can do as I please…
Too much living and not enough working in my case, and that’s before the arrival of two kittens later today… I wish summer lasted forever. | | | Kay Denney France Local time: 15:31 French to English
Generally speaking I fit my work in around my life so it balances well. Ice Scream wrote: the arrival of two kittens later today… hmm can we say "photos or it didn't happen" here?

Foir me it is more of finding interesting jobs than finding "life balance", if one is an 8-hours-tedious-person, I do not think he or she is attractive to others in speech any more. In case of falling short of such jobs (or satisfactory ones, I do not find I am fitted for MTPE), one thing for sure is that I am going to stop paying annual fee for ProZ. Hopefully it won't happen and work-life balances well. If ProZ all posts becomes MTPEs, I will definitely quit being a paying member... Ice Scream wrote: Non-paying members can't post photos... I'm still waiting to see when the staff will change that, because it makes no sense at all! I see many non-paying members who contribute much more than those who pay... In any case, everyone should be able to post photos, because they are worth a thousand words. A picture conveys the meaning or essence of a concept more effectively than its mere verbal description. For this reason, that should be changed.

Philip Lees wrote: I don't think photos should be allowed at all. Please let's not turn these forums into Instagram. Please. For me, photos are important especially when we have a question or a more technical problem. I'm talking about CAT tools in particular. We can help each other more easily with a picture. It can also be important when posting an image of a more complex term in Kudoz, a page of a part of grammar about something where we have several doubts and nobody reaches an agreement, deciphering a certain language that we are not sure of, etc. I was a non-paying member a long time ago and I experienced these difficulties. So, for these reasons I don't see what the problem is if we could extend this option to other colleagues than paying members. But I agree with you that we should not turn this site into a social network that has no other purpose than translation-related issues. Sometimes I can see it is difficult to control this, because we are humans. By the way, regarding this poll question, I avoid exposing my personal life - which is of no interest to anyone - in public. Often, I can agree with certain "intelligent" answers from other colleagues. P.S.: And just to clarify, I humbly confess... I am not a user of social networks like Instagram or others, and never have been. I have no experience, interest or even time for it | | | We need to apart the routine | Aug 18, 2022 |
In any case, it's important for keeping your mind sane. So, even loaded up, take your sacred brakes. | | | Mental health is so important! | Aug 19, 2022 |
I think a good work-life-balance is extremely important as you'll sooner or later run into burnout and depression if you overwork. But it's true that as a freelancer it's sometimes difficult to manage as our income is not stable and somehow we strive for some sense of security to be able to afford our bills. It's tricky but I think with delivering good work constantly and keeping clients happy we can get there. Oh and also setting healthy boundaries with large projects or underpaying jobs. Can y...
