From the extract of text you have given, it looks like the text actually gives an explanation of what 'literatura de cordel' is. Therefore, the point is not to find another word to replace 'cordel', as the terms is followed by an expanation anyway. Think about your reader. This is a case of the writer saying what the things is called and then giving an explanation. Literatura de cordel is a phenomenon that exists in Northeast Brazil and it is called just that - literatua de cordel. My suggestion would be to qualify the term with an adjective in Russian corresponding to the idea of 'troubadoresque', i.e. indicating to the reader more than the explanation in the text may do, that this tradition of popular travelling writers could be compared to that of the troubadors in Europe in the middle ages.
