Poll: Do you usually work during end-of-year holidays? Thread poster: ProZ.com Staff

It totally depends on my workload! I decide for myself when I work and when I don't. I might take 1-2 or more days off during the week and then go a good couple weeks with no days off. It also depends on what I'd planned beforehand. The exceptions are Christmas Eve and Christmas Day because I always plan things with my family… P.S. I can't remember if I ever worked during the end-of-year holidays. My main clients are international organizations, and their staff are given a long break.

"Do you usually work during end-of-year holidays?" In previous years, yes. But this year, stressed by the constant emails that never seem to stop, I decided to announce that between Christmas and the New Year I am NOT AVAILABLE- thus giving myself 10 blesséd days of peace and quiet.

Seldom, if ever, do I work between Christmas and New Years. The only exception is a very interesting project from a long standing client and which is sufficiently compelling for me to interrupt my normal year's end deceleration. And yes, loyalty has certain rewards.

But I am working this year! I have a large job, about six weeks' work altogether, which I started in October. I took several weeks´ holiday after delivering the first files. The client has been flexible, but now we both want the job finished as soon as possible. Besides, I have been in close contact with a Covid patient! I am not ill, thanks to vaccinations, but I am in quarantine... so it is a good chance to get some work done. Then I can celebrate afterwards. <... See more But I am working this year! I prefer to have the whole week off but if an interesting job comes along, I'm willing to work during the week in between.

I told some of my clients I'd be available if they need me between Christmas and New Year. I can use the work, since I missed out on some work when my computer was being repaired. I need the money and everything is closed or cancelled from COVID....why not make some holiday $?

If I'm offered work that gives me time to spend with my family on the special days, yes, I'll do it. This year I have a biggie to be handed in mid-January, so 2022 is off to a good start already.

Yes, quite often it's the busiest time of the year. This Christmas weekend was particularly brutal, due to a desperate request for help with an emergency project. I really need to think about setting some boundaries.

I happily work hard when needed. I just did a couple of urgent 30k jobs that needed to be done by Christmas. Mission accoplished. The day after Christmas more came in. Happy to do that as well. Peace out.

Yes, if I have any work, but I also used to travel at this time because most of my clients are on holidays too. This year I had a LASIK surgery and spent a few days just resting and avoiding screens, which was wonderful (I am planning to make it a habit). Now I am gradually returning to work, one job at a time.

Especially this year when we cannot go abroad or even meet family members due to Omicron which is spreading so fast. Might as well work and then take breaks as I go along - though I won't work on Christmas day or New year's Eve. It's not a time for travelling, for sure as the situation is constantly changing and I do not want to run the risk of a quarantine in a foreign country or even in my country either. I usually take a break round about this time, but not this year.
