Source text - English Barclays Non-Core progress continues with sale of Barclays Bank Egypt
Barclays has agreed to sell its Retail and Corporate Banking business in Egypt to Attijariwafa Bank S.A.
The transaction is estimated to result in a proforma Common Equity Tier 1 (CET1) ratio benefit of c.10bps on completion, in part reflecting an expected reduction in risk weighted assets of approximately £2bn.This proforma is calculated as at 30 June 2016, and does not reflect factors affecting the Group’s CET1 ratio since 30 June 2016.
Barclays Bank Egypt has approximately 1,500 employees and 56 branches. Completion is subject to regulatory approvals, and is currently expected to occur by the end of 2016.
Jes Staley, Barclays Group CEO, said: “I am pleased to announce a further reduction in our Non-Core business. Today’s announcement demonstrates our continued focus on improving the Group’s returns and our ability to execute our strategy quickly.
I want to take this opportunity to thank our colleagues in Egypt. It is their hard work, professionalism and strong customer and client relationships that have made this business so attractive to Attijariwafa Bank.”

Barclays ha deciso di cedere la propria divisione egiziana di Retail e Corporate Banking a Attijariwafa Bank S.A.
È stato stimato che, ad avvenuto perfezionamento, l'operazione porterà a benefici sul CET1 proformato di circa 10bps, in parte riflesso dell'attesa riduzione delle attività ponderate per il rischio di circa GBP 2 miliardi. Il presente proforma è calcolato al 30 giugno 2016 e non è quindi rappresentativo di fattori che hanno influito sul CET1 del Gruppo successivi al 30 giugno 2016.
Barclays Bank Egypt dispone di una rete di 56 filiali e di un organico di circa 1500 risorse. Il perfezionamento, soggetto alle approvazioni di legge, è attualmente previsto entro la fine del 2016.

Source text - Italian Pittore fiammingo, discendente di una grande dinastia di pittori. Figlio del noto pittore Jan Van Kessel il Vecchio, che era il suo insegnante fin dalla tenera età. Da lui ha ereditato la sua abilità nel rappresentare nature morte, dove di solito troviamo pesci e uccelli. Ha anche realizzato paesaggi, un fatto che conosciamo grazie al pittore Palomino che ha elogiato questa tipologia di opere, anche se non vi è alcun esempio con una certa attribuzione.
Nel 1680 viaggiò in Spagna, dove ottenne una grande reputazione come ritrattista alla corte di Madrid, grazie al successo dei ritratti che fece di María Luisa de Orleans, prima moglie di Carlo II. Nel 1686 divenne pittore del sovrano, entrando in diretto contatto con la corona realizzando anche ritratti del re. Dopo la morte della prima moglie di Carlo II, continuò a esercitarsi come ritrattista di corte, ottenendo il favore della nuova moglie del monarca, Mariana de Neoburgo. Con il cambio della dinastia regnante e l'avvento di Filippo V nel 1700, l'artista iniziò un declino della sua popolarità e favore reale, a causa del suo legame con la regina vedova Mariana de Neoburgo, che accompagnò nel suo esilio a Toledo, sebbene non potesse seguirla a Bayonne, a causa dell'età avanzata e della salute precaria.
L’opera decanta con esemplificazione magistrale l’arte di Jan II nel suo momento di massima vicinanza con l’arte paterna, traghettandola verso una più ampia visione spaziale ed un gusto maggiormente addentrato nello stile del Barocco maturo.
Se la minuziosa natura morta floreale sulla sinistra, con le delicate trasparenze del vetro e le dettagliate venature dei fiori, rimanda chiaramente agli insegnamenti paterni, la prosperosa zucca aperta, l’anguria e il piatto di frutta sono invece elementi più tipici dell’autore.
Translation - English Flemish painter, descendant of a great dynasty of painters. Son of the well-known painter Jan Van Kessel the Elder, who was his mentor from an early age. He inherited from him his ability to paint still lifes, where we would usually find fish and birds. We know, thanks to the painter Palomino who praised this type of works, that Van Kessel also painted landscapes, although no pieces can be attributed to him with certainty.
In 1680 he traveled to Spain, where, thanks to the success of the portraits he made of María Luisa de Orleans, first wife of Charles II, he gained an excellent reputation as a portraitist at the court of Madrid. In 1686 he became the royal painter, putting him in direct contact with the crown, painting portraits even of the king himself. After the death of Charles II's first wife, he continued to work as a court portraitist and gained the favour of the monarch's new wife, Mariana de Neoburgo. Following the change in the ruling dynasty and Philip V’s coming to power in 1700, the artist's popularity began to decline. He lost the royal favour as well, due to his links to the widowed queen Mariana de Neoburgo, whom he accompanied in her exile in Toledo, although he did not manage follow her to Bayonne, due to his old age and poor health.
This work is a masterful example of Jan II's art in its moment of maximum closeness to his father's art, leading it towards a wider spatial vision and a style more identifiable with mature Baroque.
While the meticulous floral still life on the left, with its delicate transparencies of glass and detailed veins of flowers, clearly evokes the father's teachings, the lush open pumpkin, the watermelon and the fruit plate are on the contrary more distinctive of the author.

Source text - Italian Giovane uomo con pipa e brocca di birra (Incontinenza?)
La tradizione delle così dette “teste di carattere” risale a Pieter Bruegel il Vecchio, che per primo si cimentò nella realizzazione di alcune “teste ideali” di contadini in chiave apertamente satirica/moraleggiante.
Il soggetto, da quel momento in poi, divenne un topos artistico dell’arte fiamminga lungo tutto il XVII secolo, intrecciandosi con quello dei tronie, controparte elegante delle teste popolane e contadinesche, indice di un comune interesse dell’arte fiammingo/olandese del '600 per la natura umana espressa attraverso le caratteristiche del volto e gli atteggiamenti facciali.
La nostra opera, in tale senso, ne costituisce un tipico esempio: su un fondo neutro -che allude all’interno di una taverna- un giovane uomo sembra rivolgersi direttamente allo spettatore, in un rapporto di stupore/timore, costituito da un intenso dialogo di gesti e indizi facciali.
Quasi che fossimo seduto al suo stesso tavolo, lo spettinato (e poco pulito) personaggio si accorge di noi mentre fuma la sua pipa e -ancora presente la sottile voluta di fumo che fuoriesce dalla bocca socchiusa- stringe la brocca di birra, ritraendola lentamente verso di sé.
Il naso comicamente rubicondo e gonfio e il pizzetto picaresco acuiscono lo “strabismo alcolico” così ben raffigurato nello sguardo del personaggio e così acutamente ben compreso da Craesbeeck, maestro assoluto nel giocare con le espressioni del volto.
Il personaggio si può così accostare facilmente ad alcuni degli esiti migliori dell’autore, nel suo momento di stretto contatto con Adriaen Brouwer, autore col quale sovente è possibile confonderlo.
Si è ipotizzato che questi piccoli quadretti satirici fossero concepiti sovente come serie di teste allusive ai peccati capitali, reiterate in molte varianti, oggi disperse tra musei e collezioni private. La raffigurazione della brocca di birra e del fumo, dunque dovrebbe far pensare alla gola (la birra) o alla lussuria (la pipa ardente), ma la presenza di entrambi gli elementi potrebbe solo ascriversi al generico vizio dell’Incontinenza, lasciando più ampio spazio ad un’interpretazione generale, che del Vizio ama sottolineare gli aspetti più comici e grotteschi, in bilico tra accondiscendenza e disincantato scherno.
Si pensi alle altre teste dell’autore, come il celebre Fumatore con Brocca e alla variante di Brouwer, strettamente in dialogo con la nostra, eppure anch’esse aperte a molteplici interpretazioni.
Citiamo, ancora a titolo di paragone, una Testa di uomo anziano con brocca da noi presentata al TEFAF 2020 ed il collezionista di Monete del Krenner art Museum. La pennellata grassa ed unta (quasi a rendere materialmente la condizione igienica dei ritrattati), le rifiniture in punta di sottilissimo pennello, il sapiente uso del marrone e del grigio per le differenti gradazioni cromatiche e la capacità di rendere nel piccolo formato una così icastica disamina della natura umana, fanno di questi piccoli gioielli di pittura uno dei più gustosi esempi dell’intelligente -caustica eppure sempre elegante- arte fiamminga della Golden Age.

The tradition of the so-called "character heads" dates back to Pieter Bruegel the Elder, who was the first to try his hand at creating some "ideal heads" of peasants in an openly satirical / moralising key.
From that moment on this subject became an artistic topos of Flemish art throughout the seventeenth century, intertwining with that of the tronie, elegant counterpart of the commoner and peasant heads, an indication of a shared interest in the Flemish / Dutch art of the 1600s for human nature expressed through facial features and facial expressions.
Our work, in this regard, is a typical example: on a neutral background - which brings to mind the inside a tavern - a young man seems to address the viewer directly, in a relationship made of bewilderment/ fear and of an intense dialogue of gestures and facial clues.
As if we were sitting at his table, the dishevelled (and not very clean) character notices us while smoking his pipe and - the thin puff of smoke is still coming out of his half-closed mouth - squeezes the pitcher of beer, slowly pulling it towards him.
The comically ruddy and swollen nose and the picaresque goatee sharpen the "alcoholic squint" depicted so well in the character's gaze and so acutely well caught by Craesbeeck, undisputed genius of playing with facial expressions.
The character can thus be easily compared to some of the author's best works, in his moment of close contact with Adriaen Brouwer, an author with whom he can often be confused.
It has been speculated that these small satirical paintings were often conceived as a series of heads alluding to the deadly sins, repeated in many variations, now scattered among museums and private collections. The pitcher of beer and smoke should therefore allude to gluttony (the beer) or to lust (the burning pipe), but the presence of both elements could be ascribed to the generic habit of Incontinence, leaving space to a more open interpretation, which prefer to emphasise the more comical and grotesque aspects of Sins, poised between condescension and disenchanted mockery.
If one is to think about the author’s other heads, such as the famous Smoker with Pitcher and Brouwer's version, strictly related to ours, one will find that these too are open to multiple interpretations.
We likewise mention, by way of comparison, a Head of an elderly man with pitcher that we exhibited at TEFAF 2020 and the collector of Coins of the Krenner art Museum. The greasy and oily brushstroke (as if to materially render the hygienic condition of the subject), the finishing touches made with a very thin brush, the skilful use of brown and gray for the different chromatic shades and the ability to render such an evocative analysis of human nature in such a small size, make these little gems of paintings one of the most exquisite examples of the intelligent - piercing yet always elegant - Flemish art of the Golden Age.
