Strange noise in my PC Thread poster: Noemi Carrera

Dear colleagues,
My PC makes a strange noise. It seems as if there was a bomb inside of it . The sound is similar to the sounds produced by a clock.
Have you ever experienced something similar?
Thank you very much in advance for your suggestions. This noise is driving me crazy!

The noise might be caused by the fan in your PC. I experienced this once. When the fan is replaced, the noise disappeared.

Hello Noemi,
First of all, there IS a clock inside your PC, though I am afraid it's very unlikely that you'll ever hear it running, specially due to its speed (some 1.x GHz most likely.... uffff)
But talking seriously, let me suggest that your problem sounds rather mechanical, possibly the fan is not working properly or is not properly adjusted.
Could you check if your PC is overheating these days? This could be a clear symptom.

PS: And I must say, I DON'T think there is a bomb in your PC. Unless you're in a James Bond movie, which I guess is not the case ;D ▲ Collapse

How long has it been since you opened it? The vents gather dust and lint...

I think that for now you should continue to work on the translations you have (if it didn't crash, it will due for a couple of days more! ) and when you're sure that you won't need the computer for a day or two, go to the place where you bought it and explain the problem, before you disasemble the computer. If you try to fix the problem yourself, you might loose your garantee... Besides, if the fan has dust, they will clean!... A few days before my newest HD passed away, I heard something like TAC, TAC, TAC...
Back up all the information in it and have it checked asap!
Fans usually sound like a plane about taking off... well, sort of...

Yes, definitely don't let things go unchecked but get everything saved on CD that you haven't saved recently. I lost quite a lot three weeks ago because I foolishly postponed putting my work on a CD. I am so annoyed at myself!
My computer had a fan problem and some other "unexplainable" conflict that the computer store couldn't resolve without reformatting my computer...

Finally, there was no "bomb" in my PC It was just my wireless mouse...
The "Low battery" dialog box could not be properly displayed and, apparently, that caused that strange noise.
It is really funny since I really worried about it...and the reason and the solution - (just closing the dialog box)could not be simpler!

It could be loose wire ticking against the ventilator or the ventilator which has become loose. Better to have a PIV processor than an AMD when ventilatorproblems occur.
