I think they have been around for 10 years or so Jan 26, 2016

and I wonder how many linguists from here have paid their memberships to that site.

...but could you explain to a lame like me:

A long time ago, I worked for an A company. It was a well-known and legitimate establishment in the translation industry. It required me to install a cutting-edge software the company developed to handle its files. I did it. Along the project, I observed the application behavior. It stole my data and information and sent them to its server. Several months after completion of the project, a W company representative contacted me and revealed that the A company sold my information and data to her company.

What "information and data"? Something stolen from your computer? Or you're suggesting (not that I believed it) that Proz could have sent the posted jobs data to those crooks? Afaik that would be in breach with their own rules (reposting of offers is not allowed in most (all?) cases).

Another real story, Google notified me about abnormal internet traffics from my computer to reach Google Translate server without my concern. Responding the notification, I, then, monitored my traffic and found that a software from a reputable company used my internet connection and IP address to connect to Google Translate server and then sent the extracted data to the W company' server. I uninstalled the software and Google never contacted me again.

Why would that company use your connection and IP to use GT? This scenario I don't understand at all.... what "extracted data" would they then send to the other company...?

Just received it too Jan 26, 2016

Fortunately, my email provider recognized this tasteless offer from a ruthless agency and put it right where it belongs: in my SPAM folder. Needless to add anything else.

My filters seem to be less intelligent. Jan 26, 2016

I had to add one manually for their second junk mail.

Not sure what this is yet but I think I just found a new forum to quietly stalk in my coffee breaks.

Check out their "feedback" section and search for something that a user starting with K posted (currently 9h entry when counting top down).

Heck, poor guy or girl. Really needs to get his/her biz risk management trained a bit. But man... 3 days work... I've seen people doing more fuss about way less than that (as I proudly admit).

Woah.

Made a screenshot of this for my private collection.

(Don't mix that with the feedback to pub on feedback, my "woah" refers to that thread about a specific so-called "client".
Feedback to that pub as such is interesting to read (it's an own feedback thread in the feedback section) - translators' EN language styles, unique nonfake replies, translators cooperate and help them to build something up.)

I feel like a nature filmmaker currently observing a group of titbirds building a kind of "something". Could be a larger nest labyrinth or so. Should I zoom in closer?

Update: They say on their page they're around for 10 years? In what universe?

Update: Membership payments go to a W. Consulting. The pub is based in China. (According to the page.) Sure, looks very much like another page betting on membership payments instead on work. If they do that for 10 years... no wonder hardly anyone heard of them (have others? This is the first time I saw that page).

Anyway, I just left my 23-cents-and-a-typo in that feedback-to-feedback thread and will revisit in next coffee breaks to see how this discussion develops.

(You can't edit your own forum posts there quite a downer for e.v.e.r.y. translator, not sure how the others could get along with that.)
