coltivazione senza sostegni a strozzi:
when removing useful mineral, non-useful mineral is left behind, in the form of pillars, for roof support
I have no idea what type of supports these are.
The only possible reference I have is the De Mauro definition, which may or may not apply in this case:
ing.civ., nella costruzione di gallerie stradali, parte sottostante la superficie di contatto tra la calotta e i piedritti

Hi there, I know it sounds bizarre however, please follow the link and see for yourself..a short version is pasted below
Underground Room and Pillar Mining. Underground mines in the United States are typically operated using one of two different methods: room and pillar mining or longwall mining. In 2004, approximately 82% of our produced coal volume came from underground mining operations using the room and pillar method with continuous mining equipment.
In room and pillar mining, rooms are cut into the coal bed leaving a series of pillars, or columns of coal, to help support the mine roof and control the flow of air. Continuous mining equipment is used to cut the coal from the mining face. Generally, openings are driven 20 feet wide and the pillars are generally rectangular in shape measuring 35-50 feet wide by 35-80 feet long. As mining advances, a grid-like pattern of entries and pillars is formed. Shuttle cars are used to transport coal to the conveyor belt for transport to the surface.

A couple morelinks for you one (very very long) has pictures of these shafts. The "strozzare" means to choke (like being strangulated), therefore an otherwise even tube that is narrowed at one point would be my guess.. Good luck!! :o)

I really think you need to flip it..
sustaining or retaining , even transversal pillars are left/put/carved in place, in the descent that follows the ore, at points containing little or no mineral deposis /or in locations where little or no mineral deposits are found

Heading would be
forming/placement/of the load bearing pillars
Good luck!!

Comment: "Thanks for your help! I spoke to the client and after much deliberation we decided on: underhand stoping (without supports)."
