Italian term

breccia ossifera

Italian to English Science Geology
Visogliano

Mairi-Claire Hamill (asker) Jun 2, 2015:
I don't ask questions without having previously researched it myself! I also got numerous google hits for Breccia ossifera del monte Peglia etc. but got no clear translation of the term apart from what Heidi kindly posted below...which is clear enough but I wanted to check whether there might have been a precise term for breccia ossifera.

Mairi-Claire Have you done any research yourself? The very first Google hit provides an answer for "breccia", and "ossifera" is pretty easy too.

Ossiferous caverns and osseous breccia.
Ossiferous caverns are caves so named because in them the remains of various animals, such as bears, hyenas, elephants &c. are detected, often enveloped by mud or ether deposits, and in such cases concealed from ordinary observation.
Osseaous breccias are for the most part clefts of rocks, such as have been previously noticed, filled with bones, fragments of rocks, and an earthy or compact cement. They are sometimes connected with ossiferous caverns.
