توصيف
I coined this term several years ago, and am using it in almost all of my localization work (e.g for Intel.) Microsoft people call it "تشكيل جانبي", which I frankly hate due to its inaccuracy. In my understanding, a profile defines a set of settings, parameters, or preferences specific to a certain entity (e.g. user). I find توصيف serves this meaning reasonably well.

ِA profile according to Sakhr is a glimpse of a person's background (as we are doing with proz com. It is often a brief cv or professional summary.

Discussion
Back to "to profile", and if we are creating the concept, not translating, it would help much better to have the Arabic equiavlents of "a profile" and "profile(d)" from the same Arabic root.
English is not the best language to follow, because in Arabic , and in German "die Luete essen Essen", while in English, "people eat food". That is why I prefer Hazem's over Yaser's , because we can derive a verb from the first, , while in the second, one cannot .
I hope I am making any sense.
