Danish term

mødt for Protocollen

Danish to English Social Sciences History
In a 1783 marriage record, there is a column for "Datum, naar mødt for Protocollen." I am unsure of the meaning. The next column is for the date of marriage. I know the couple involved was married by royal license, as it says in the last column for remarks: "I Følge Kongebrev m.m. af 5te Junii." Any ideas? By the way, there is no date written in the column for "Datum, naar mødt for Protocollen."

Danish term (edited): Datum, naar mødt for Protocollen
Selected

Date when [the spouses] appeared for pre-registration.

Alternative: Date when [the spouses] appeared to obtain a marriage license.
Discussion: Typically, a marriage has two steps. The first is to obtain a license. At this time, the prospective spouses declare that they do not have any venereal disease, are not already married, etc. Then, when the marriage is celebrated, the officiating person prepares a Marriage Certificate, which is then also filed with the government, and copies of it are supplied to the spouses.
The omission of the described date is unusual but probably not disqualifying.
