They are talking about data here (usually digital). All the dictionary definitions of nachhaltig seem to be "sustainable", but I am not sure if that only has environmental connotations in English. What do you think? Is there another word that would be better? Thanks for any opinions!

: It does mean sustainable, and I suspect the writer put it in because no document seems to be complete without it these days. But environmental or not, it doesn't make sense here. I think you're justified in using something else.

I see no reason why you wouldn't still be able to use 'sustained' here.
The fact that it tends to be overused in one context has no bearing on other contexts.

I am not sure whether enduring/enduringly is necessarily correct, but I am also not entirely convinced by the other suggestions. Thus, I provide this 'answer' here to record another alternative.
Some rationale:
* The two uses of "nachhaltig" might need somewhat different treatment in English.
* In data management it may be important that the team has enough money to continue functioning well, but it is certainly often important that old data is archived in a way that 'sustains' its availability for future users — i.e. future generations.

E.g. perhaps processing the data to convert them into a format that is more stable.

To my ear/eye enduring(ly) seems a bit clunky as written. My main motivation here is to suggest an alternative connotation of nachhaltig, rather than to propose 'perfect' phrasing.

Discussion
In the second instance, the pairing with 'vollständig' seems to rule out 'ongoing', 'long-term' or 'permanent', and the notion of 'thorough' is in any case covered by 'vollständig'.
