interesting situation here... Ehsan's suggestion is correct as far as what the English text says...Farzad's is correct as far as what the author should have used.

The hajj pilgrims do not throw stones at the Black Stone in the Ka'ba in Mecca. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black_Stone

However, they do throw stones at three walls called "jamarat" in Mina http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stoning_the_devil

I would recommend using the literal translation, but adding a footnote with an explanation that the author has made a mistake. You can add the correct term in the footnote.

However, as far as I know Hajar al-Asvad is a sacred stone to Muslims. What they throw stone at are three walls. That is stoning of the devil. So, I think there is something wrong with the text or the author!
