arbitration award (or) arbitral award

An arbitrator's final resolution ("laudo arbitral") is formally called an "arbitration award" (186,000 hits in Google) or "arbitral award" (42,700 hits). Blacks Law Dictionary defines it as "a final judgment or decision by an arbitrator", while the Oxford Dictionary of Law indicates that "a judgment of an arbitrator is called his award."

Can an arbitration award be overturned by a court?
In general, courts cannot overturn an arbitration Award because the arbitrator made a mistake of law or fact. Even if a court would have decided the case differently under existing law, the court will still enforce an arbitration Award that differs from what it would have decided.

(From the International Court of Arbitration website):
International recognition of arbitral awards
Arbitral awards enjoy much greater international recognition than judgements of national courts. Over 134 countries have signed the 1958 United Nations Convention on the Recognition and Enforcement of Foreign Arbitral Awards, known as the "New York Convention". The Convention facilitates enforcement of awards in all contracting states. There are several other multilateral and bilateral arbitration conventions that may also help enforcement.

agree Adrian MM. (X) : though some ProZ.Commers think eg a court award means of money only - it doesn't in arb.

Thanks, and in effect, a court's award of costs is a completely different concept from the "arbitration award", which is the arbitrator's "judgment", called "resolución arbitral" or "laudo arbitral" in Spanish
