It all started from my kindergarten days. And I believe if one is supposed to develop a passion for anything serious, worthy in their lives, childhood days are the proper time and place to start. So, I've been grown up with it and known it from early on.
Second things ... okay, you can stop it now.
I got used to reading both in my mother language and the English I've got to know. Graded English books were my first try in translation, having read them many times and finding in them interesting stories to be told to the children and teenagers of my own age. That's where the passion for converting words from one language, and being a "cultural ambassador" to the other emerged.
Let's make it academic.
I decided to give a formal structure to my passion by going to university - was that a mistake, you might ask? I'm not really sure! After a competitive entrance exam, I was chosen as one of the English translation students in Allameh Tabataba'i University which is home to the most prestigious translation department in Iran. I passed all the BA courses successfully and enrolled in MA courses - again, after one other competitive exam - to make a solid theoretical foundation for my disperse experiences up to then.
Working it ...
Despite having started to work in various translation-related projects - such as medical, technical, audiovisual, sports and leisure, management and marketing, etc. - even before entering university, after finishing MA courses I dedicated myself fully to translation. And it mostly consisted of translating books for Iranian publishing houses - in areas that I enjoyed most: literary, socio-cultural and philosophical translation. I have translated more than 10 books in Humanities which have been published by professional Iranian publishers in Iran book market.
Last words: what's going on now?
Currently, along with my previous translations for Iran book
market, I’ve engaged in a new kind of dealing with language: copywriting. An
interesting subfield of marketing which lets me be more creative with using language
and making an emotional contact with those who read it. It’s an attractive part
of my career, a whole new experience with lots of possibilities ahead.
