Swedish term

skarva ut

Swedish to English Tech/Engineering Telecom(munications) optical network
godtagbart alternativ finns då ny radiolänk har installerats, dessutom kommer fler fibrer att skarvas ut.

This is in a text about problems experienced on the optical network. I take it "skarva" is "splice", but what exactly are you doing here? Cut out? By-passed?

Suggestions gratefully received.

For some technical reading ... http://kocentoptec.com/NewsView.Asp?ID=83

splice out

One opens the cable, cuts the required number of fibers, splices them to a thinner cable and seals the joint.
Note from asker:
Both answers useful, hard choice, but thanks a lot.
Peer comment(s):

neutral Deane Goltermann : 'splice' is certainly what your doing and Svens description of the process is one possibility, but am reluctant to use the separable verb form with 'out'. It does not seem to be a noun form either.
