Norwegian to English Law/Patents Poetry & Literature
In a patent document relating to additives to fowl litter to prevent digestive bacterial colonization:

"Med avlut fra et surt eller nøytralt cellulosesulfitkokk forstås avluten som fås etter behandling ave trevirke med en..."

The Norwegian in this document seems to have a Danish influience (although I don't believe it's that old), but my Danish dictionaries and technical books don't help much either.

agree Richard Lawson : Lye ("lut") is used in processing wood pulp to make paper, etc. Hence, "avlut" is the spent or waste liquor from this process.

neutral Richard Lawson : Norsk Miljøtesaurus is a useful site, and it lists the Norwegian term "avlut", but does it give corresponding English terms?

the site calls it affald which in one corresponding term is waste
