Dear all,

How can we translate the expression "were made dames" in:

[Paralympic athlete Tanni Grey-Thompson and sailor Ellen MacArthur were made dames in 2005.]

Thanks a lot.

They do translate it السيدة as in the link below abou Kelly Holmes. Knighted means given the title, because dame is the female equivalent of knight.

As for منحت وسام this should be the translation of "decorated" or "honoured" by the Queen, not "made dame". You have to mention that she was given that title.

another context "She was made a dame in the New Year's Honours list" So now can that be translated as منحتها الملكة وسام الامبراطورية وضمتها إلى قائمتها الشرفية للعام الجديد؟؟؟
Thanks.

There is also منحت الملكة وسام الإمبراطورية البريطانية & وسام سيدة الإمبراطورية

There is also another word that I think is closely related to it which is "knight" [she has be knighted] & I translated as كرمتها ملكة بريطانيا

Like how can we translate "Dame Kelly Holmes"??? Knowing that Dame is only a title! I thought it was part of her name at first. Can it be translated as السيدة كيلي هولمز ? Still not clear.
