English term

referentially and pragmatically

English to Arabic Social Sciences Linguistics Terminology of linguistics
Hi,
The expression above is taken from Peter Newmark's A textbook of Translation. It talks about translation and its theories. On page '23': the paragraph in which the expression appears is:
Does this mean, as Seleskovitch claims, that the (SL) words disappear or that you deverbalize the concepts' (Delisle)? Not at all, you are working continuously on two levels, the real and the linguistic, life and language, reference and sense, but you write, on the linguistic level, where your job is to achieve the greatest possible correspondence, referentially and pragmatically, with the words and sentences of SL text.

Of course I would like to know what the meaning is.

من الناحية المرجعية والواقعية

تحقيق أكبر قدر من التوافق، من الناحية المرجعية والواقعية، مع كلمات وجمل النص الأصلي.

(يلاحظ أنني اعتبرت أن SL هي اختصار source language)

مع أطيب تمنياتي

In linguistics:
pragmatics: The study of language as it is used in a social context and affects the interlocutors and their behavior >> البراجماتية: دراسة استعمال اللغة

Some might stick to the literal translation of (referential) as إحالي and this is also acceptable. So you may say إحاليا وبراجماتيا

i'm afraid the other suggested equivalents are prone to be mistaken because of the so-called 'drawback of synonymity' (آفة الترادف), with such common idioms as "instrumentalistically" for ذرائعيا, and "semantically" for دلاليا.

دلاليا و برجماتكيا (تداخل اللغة م الثقافة و الحياة اليومية)

pragmatics do not exist as a single word in Arabic- but pragmatics deal with language in context, as in its cultural aspect and here and now aspect
