English term

synchronized timing

English Social Sciences General / Conversation / Greetings / Letters interpersonal synchrony
Dear colleagues,
I have a little doubt about the meaning of “synchronized timing" in the passages below, taken from a chapter about the importance of interpersonal synchrony in psychotherapy.
I know that “timing" can also mean “synchronization”, but in this case maybe it is used in combination with “synchronized” to mean “temporal synchronization”., although it seems a bit redundant... Might it be just another way of saying "synchronization"?
(the second occurrence of synchronized timing is toward the end of the second passage...)
Thank you so much for your help!

The pages to follow highlight the significance of interpersonal synchrony for psychotherapy. I examine the importance of *** synchronized timing *** from macro levels of shared belief, rituals, language, and culture to micro levels of coupled physiology, posture, facial expressions, body movements, and neural dynamics. I address how synchrony during therapy often operates below conscious levels to coordinate unconscious aspects of being. My primary thesis is that interpersonal synchrony between therapist and patient is the primary mechanism by which clinical intuition operates, in both ordinary and extraordinary ways.

Kaye and Fogel (1980) examined how gaze synchrony enhances social relatedness and cognitive growth. Cohn and Tronick (1988) researched the role of affect synchrony in the development of self-regulatory capacities in children. Jaffe and colleagues (2001) identified how vocal synchrony between parent and child during what Trevarthen (1989) dubbed the earliest “proto-conversations” builds language skills, while resulting in attachment security. These studies, among a host of more contemporary others (e.g., Atzil & Gendron, 2017; Nguyen et al., 2020), point to the importance of biobehavioral synchrony during development.
Given extensive research indicating *** synchronized timing *** between mother (or other primary caregiver) and child, perhaps it is no surprise that the very language of attuned response points toward coordinated timing, especially critical during the earliest years to build secure attachment.

synchrony/synchronisation

'Synchronised timing' is a tautology, since 'synchronise' means 'cause to happen at the same time'. As you say, a bit redundant.
