German term

Heilerziehungspfleger

German to English Medical Certificates, Diplomas, Licenses, CVs
I know there are already several entries for possible translation for the German occupation "Heilerziehungspfleger". My question is for the Canadian context and equivalents in the NOC. Would "instructor of persons with disabilities" be a correct translation? That is NOC 4215

Discussion

Johanna Timm, PhD Oct 7, 2021:
Beatrix If it does not have to fit NOC 2015, "Developmental Services Worker" could also an option (NOC 2012)?

AllegroTrans Oct 7, 2021:
Agree with Phil A "country-neutral" term should be used. It is for the user of the translation to assess whether and how the job title fits into the Canadian system, not the translator. However Johanna has found that the European database of regulated professions has an official title in English for this, so this seems the best way to go. Personally I would retain the German term for the avoidance of doubt and dispute and put the translation in brackets.
Beatrix D (asker) Oct 7, 2021:
I do think it is relevant if the job title is required, e.g. on a resume, to look for work in Canada or to get a work permit. Disability support worker/practitioner is already a better approach (and closer to the existing NOC category) than curative care nurse which I have never seen in Canada.
philgoddard Oct 7, 2021:
What this profession is called in Canada, assuming it even exists there, is not relevant. You're not trying to find a local equivalent - for example, you wouldn't translate "Joe Biden" as "Justin Trudeau". I think you should be guided by the previous answers.

Note from asker:
I don't think "nurse" is the appropriate term as it entails medical care which is not the what the Heilerziehungspfleger does which is a paramedical occupation that focuses more on supports for daily living.

neutral AllegroTrans : Your ref describes the wotk of a curative care nurse but fails to suport this as the translation of the German term. Any evidence?

Education/training for this work
