French term

avis de mise en instance

French to English Bus/Financial Transport / Transportation / Shipping postal service
A very simple concept but can't find the term for the note the postman leaves in your letterbox in your absence, telling you to collect it at the post office. Notification?

Customer Information

PS Form 3849 is the Redelivery Notice left for a customer when a mailpiece is undeliverable. This form provides the customer with information on the type of mailpiece that was attempted by the Carrier, why the mailpiece was not left, and which delivery options are available. It provides the customer with options and information they need to either request a redelivery or pick up their mailpiece at the Post Office.

Exactly Emmanuella It's more like 'parcel pending, come and get it'
Emmanuella Jun 21, 2021:
L'avis de passage ( attempted /failed delivery ) n'est pas un avis de mise en instance du colis qui indique comment le récupérer .

notice of parcel on hold

Just a suggestion on how to express the idea behind it from the definition,

This seems to a be a bit different from the regular "avis de passage" where they usually will try to deliver the next day, they will deliver it directly to a specified location.
It obviously depends of the country and the courier company.

In case of unsuccessful delivery attempt due to the recipient’s absence at the delivery location.
The notice (or card) of parcel on hold will tell you whether:
-the parcel has been taken to your local Post Office branch.
-the parcel has been taken to a parcel shop
-the parcel has been taken to service provider’s depot.

agree Nikki Scott-Despaigne : A parcel being hed "en instance" is held in a particular place (and for a limited time only). This suggestion conveys that.

notice of attempted delivery

Or if it's the heading of the document, you could be more informal and say 'Sorry we missed you'.

neutral Nikki Scott-Despaigne : An "avis de passage" is generic. To convey "mise en instance", which means the parcel is being held, then it's too general. "On hold" needs to be in there somewhere.

I don't understand what you mean by "on hold". They attempted to deliver it, but no one was home.
