French term

trajectoire de capitalisation

French to English Social Sciences Social Science, Sociology, Ethics, etc.
I have been translating a text on "capitalisation", and after a while I realized that I had been translating the word "capitalisation" wrong, in as much we were talking about capitalizing on experience, or knowledge accumulation. Hence my difficultihng in translating the expression "trajectoire de capitalisation "

Ex "On peut évaluer une trajectoire de capitalisation à plusieurs niveaux de la gestion des résultats "

Discussion

Howard Sugar (asker) Jan 26, 2019:
A sample sentece is "Après presque six ans d’accompagnement des trajectoires de capitalisation de la BTC et en évaluant le rôle joué par les experts KIT, il est possible de présenter ici les capacités requises d’un animateur ou facilitateur d’un tel processus, la façon d’animer et de motiver. " I was thinking of using "knowlege capitalisation".
philgoddard Jan 26, 2019:
Well, that helps a bit Trajectoire can mean project, but you're still not giving us enough French to work on. And are you sure it's not a financial term? It looks like it could be in the example you've given.

Please could we have the surrounding text. And what's the first time this word is used? Don't they define it at the beginning?
Howard Sugar (asker) Jan 26, 2019:
The artilce referrs to the "capitalisation" or othe capitalizing on knowlege of Belgian development ageny projects and programs in developing countries. I went through some 16 pages of translation before realizing that the word "capitalization" in English was the wrong translation.
writeaway Jan 26, 2019:
What does this have to do with social sciences etc? Context is definitely needed. What is the actual subject matter?
philgoddard Jan 26, 2019:
Sorry, but this is nowhere near enough context.

Using this measure of capitalization to GDP gives a global ratio of 4:1 in 2009, ... the trajectories of GDP and capitalization evolve over the period 1950—2010.
Note from asker:
The capitialization in this context does not refer to money but to captitalizing on experience, or knowlege accumulation

roadmap for knowledge capitalisation

"Après presque six ans d’accompagnement des trajectoires de capitalisation de la BTC et en évaluant le rôle joué par les experts KIT, il est possible de présenter ici les capacités requises d’un animateur ou facilitateur d’un tel processus, la façon d’animer et de motiver."

accompagnement des trajectoires de capitalisation
=
supporting/facilitating roadmaps for capitalisation of know-how / knowledge (i.e. turning knowledge in a form of capital)

This sounds to me like like a planned / purposeful "trajectoire" so it would be a "road-map".

OTOH, if there is no teleological element in these "trajectoires" - i.e. if they just happened to happen the way they happened - then it would be simply "paths to ...", but my hunch is that it's far less likely - you don't "accumulate knowledge" by pure accident.

Only CL3 as it's based on a rather limited fragment of the ST,

disagree Daryo : 1 - they are talking of knowledge as capital, not of that kind of capital 2 - confusing "the return on capital" with "the capital itself" is nonsense, for ANY type of capital! (like confusing the tree and the fruits!)
