Russian term

знания о сущем

Russian to English Social Sciences Religion
This is from a work on Byzantine missionaries. Multitran has "creation" but somehow I think there must be a more specific term, perhaps originating in philosophy, that indicates "everything that exists." Spasibo zaranee.

Коль скоро никакого другого смысла, кроме военно-политического, в христианизации варваров не виделось, то обращение их "просто так" невольно воспринималось с некоторым подозрением. В конце концов, православие являлось одним из тех особых "знаний о сущем", которыми, с точки зрения ромеев, неразумно было делиться с чужаками!

I think it refers to God

In the Russian tradition God and His names do not always start with a capital letter. Сущий is God and the name refers to the moment when He called himself "I am who I am". So знание о Сущем would be "Knowledge of the Great I am" or something like that

Note являлось одним из тех особых: православие was a special kind of „знаний о сущем“.

Now, what is that, if a special kind of it is orthodoxy? My take is religious wisdom because true wisdom is not a kind of thing you would share carelessly.

So, what we`ve got is the then orthodoxy was a special kind of religious wisdom.

a case of episteme or epistemology

epistemology от греч. episteme = сущностное знание. противоположность phronesis = практическое знание. Аристотель подчеркивал различие между этими двумя формами знания, наделяя философов первым, и прочих, например ремесленников, вторым.

science of being / science of what is

Далее, еще одной темой беседы стал вопрос о предмете и цели философии. Здесь старец и молодой Иустин, казалось, должны были согласиться друг с другом, ибо последний так определяет философию: она есть «знание о сущем (επιστήμη του οντος) и ведение истины (του αληθούς έπίγνωσιν)»; наградой за такое ведение является «блаженство» (εύδαιμονία).

The Greek equivalent given here is επιστήμη του όντος, which translates literally as "science of being" - or, more precisely, "science of that which exists/is".

For επιστήμη, an old Greek-Russian dictionary (Veisman) gives знание, умение, and (especially when it's knowledge of/about something) наука.
