Researchers at City University London are trialling a new style of audio description for blind and partially-sighted people. "Cinematic audio description" aims to convey the full cinematic experience, giving access to the camera shots and editing techniques that are such an important part of the language of film.

An expert panel will discuss the LCACE-funded 'Calling the Shots' project, which involved writing and recording this new kind of audio description for David Lean’s Brief Encounter.

The panel discussion will start at 18.45 and panellists include broadcasting policy expert Tim Suter, project researcher Louise Fryer, Joan Greening of the RNIB, and screenwriter Juliet McKeon.

You can view a screening of David Lean’s Brief Encounter, featuring the new kind of audio description, beforehand at 16.45.
