Michaël Rousseau, Freelance translator and project manager, member of the Belgian Chamber of Translators and Interpreters
At the end of my studies at the International School for
Interpreters in Mons, Belgium, I obtained a master's degree in specialised
translation. This last program mainly aims at learning how to handle more
specific vocabulary such as legal, medical, and economic vocabulary. My main
languages of study were French, Dutch and Spanish.
My studies in this school gave me the linguistic and technical
skills I needed to become a translator. It also enabled me to obtain an Erasmus
scholarship at the University of Nijmegen in the Netherlands.
Just a few months after leaving Mons, I decided to offer my
services as a freelance translator. Having studied English during my secondary
school years and having lived in Ireland for a while, I was able to add this
language to my toolbox.
Today, I still enjoy translating the texts that I receive. I have
gradually specialised in legal, marketing and advertising texts... But I remain
what we call a generalist, because diversity is one of the beauties of this
profession.
In addition to translation, I also handle proofreading, editing and
post-editing. I work with Trados Studio 2019, but I can easily use client-specific
tools. My source languages are therefore Dutch, Spanish and English and I
translate into French.
