Language Ninja (NL | EN | FR | ES | PT) with a ā¤ļø for teaching translation and interpreting š» š§ š¤
Curious to find out what makes me tick? ā¬
š Fresh out of university college with a Masterās Degree in Translation and a Postgraduate Certificate in Conference Interpreting under my belt, I jumped in at the deep end and started my own business in 2012.
š What can I say? Waiting until I feel ready isnāt how I roll.
āļø While I absolutely loved translating and interpreting (still do!), I discovered thereās one thing I enjoy even more: teaching others the ropes of the job. I became a part-time teaching assistant at Ghent University in 2013.
š¤¹š» As the years went by, juggling clients and students just wasnāt an option anymore. Elton John had no idea. Forget about āsorryā, ānoā is the hardest word. Especially for a perfectionist people-pleaser like me.
šÆ Thatās why Iām a translator and EU-accredited interpreter turned trainer.
ā
I help students turn their love of languages into a career, one ālife-saving checklistā at a time (their words, not mine). Iām convinced I can turn any challenging chapter into a one-page (colour-coded!) checklist or summary. Donāt take my word for it, ask any one of my (former) students.
ā¤ļø When Iām not sharing the secrets of the trade with them, I enjoy reading*, dabbling with watercolour, jogging, travelling and watching stand-up comedy.
--- * Recent (re)reads include: āBorn a Crimeā by Trevor Noah and āA Christmas Carolā by Charles Dickens. Yes, Iām one of those people who start decorating in November and donāt take down the Christmas tree until February. Donāt judge me! |
