C.Q. Cheng, Dongzhi County, Anhui Province, China, enrolled at the earliest university in the history of China-Tianjin University (the former Beiyang University) as a student of science in 1983, during the four-year study, he studied Classical Calculus, Organic Chemistry and University physics(original English edition of famous foreign university, such as Yale University), Chemical Machinery, etc. and graduated in 1987 with the major in English for Science and Technology and was assigned to Hefei General Machinery Research Institute under direct jurisdiction of the former Ministry of Machinery Industry in the same year for professional technic translation. During his stay at that Institute he accumulatively translated about six million Chinese words of technical materials (from English, Japanese, German, etc.), the contents of translation cover about 30 specialties of general petrochemical machinery and equipment such as compressor, fan and blower, refrigerating and air conditioning, separating machinery (centrifuges, separators, filters), industrial valves, centrifugal pump, reciprocating pump, metering pump, mechanical sealing and nonmetallic packing and sealing, pressure vessels and pressure pipelines, packaging machinery, oil refinery machinery, etc., especially he made outstanding contribution to the preparatory work of the 3rd, 4th and 5th Asian International Conferences on Fluid Machinery and the 1st, 2nd and 3rd Sino-Japan International Conferences on Filtration and Separation Technology organized by Chinese Fluid Engineering Institution, CMES and the project-winning efforts in international bidding in recent years for that Institute. As a worker of that Institute who had rendered outstanding service, he was dispatched to inspect and do sightseeing in many countries such as Japan, Singapore, Thailand, Malaysia, Germany, Austria, Holland, France, Belgium, UK, Denmark, Sweden, etc.
During his stay at that Institute, he translated a great deal of technical materials such as technical standards and codes, product catalogues and operating manuals, etc. for his work unit and relevant industrial enterprises. He has a systematic in-depth study in syntax, word formation and etymology, accumulated rich experience in translation practice and collected a great deal of technical vocabulary. He is familiar with many kinds of machinery and equipment and process flow. He has a solid foundation in engineering knowledge, has a wide range of knowledge about machinery, equipment, electronics and electricals and instrumentation.
He published tens of written and translated articles in national and provincial class magazines like "China Youth", "Fluid Machinery", "Compressor Technology", "Fan Technology", "Filter & Separator", etc. and more than 50 translated articles (Chinese |
