Russian term
сокращение в 2,2 раза
Russian to English
Bus/Financial
Mining & Minerals / Gems
This question has been asked repeatedly, in different language pairs, but I still can't wrap my mind around what this particular one in Russian means in English.
They started out with X tons (how much?) of silver and "reduced it by 2.2 times" and ended up with 3 tons. So what is X?
Previous iterations:

There was one other time, when Amy Lesiewicz (I think) spelled it out clearly, but I can't find it.
Thanks in advance.

I would guess that they mean:
X/2.2 = 3
X = 3*2.2 = 6.6 tons
6.6 tons divided by 2.2 = 3 tons
