Erzsébet Czopyk Feb 9, 2016:
we are united in our differences "it would be silly to argue that, say, Clearasil would be liable for damages" - I found strange the first translation of the microwave owen when it was stated "do not place any animals in it" - then simply accepted the fact that in some countries it shall be stated to avoid any legal responsibility for misusing the product. So maybe for you "silly", maybe for another country it is "normal".
Ilan Rubin (X) Feb 9, 2016:
2 Jaime... ...well said.
It's probably safe to say that this is a "remedy" or "treatment" for "acne". I've run the Russian through Google, which has given me the product 'Hit'.

I don't think there are any legal ramifications for saying the product is for acne. A well-known brand (Clearasil) sells its brands as a 'treatment' and 'remedy' for acne, but this doesn't imply a 'cure' of any sorts. It's just a way of controlling the condition. Even "spots" occur for a whole host of illnesses, but it would be silly to argue that, say, Clearasil would be liable for damages because someone used it treat themself for chicken pox.

I propose "treatment/remedy for acne/spots".
Ilan Rubin (X) Feb 9, 2016:
Erzsebet, I didn't write that it wasn't an illness. You used the term 'specific' that's all. I'm saying it's the same as 'прыщи' - coz it is. That's all. My last post on the subject!
Anzhelika Kuznetsova Feb 9, 2016:
@Ilan @Ilan
unfortunately, it is an illness, and a very bad one(
while a pimple can be there, it can even get real bad at some point, but then it's gone and you forget all about it, until you do something to your face again)

PS this sort of blissful ignorance only a guy past puberty or a girl with genetically perfect skin can afford;))
Anzhelika Kuznetsova Feb 9, 2016:
acne vs blemishes, pimples and zits @Ilan and Erzsébet

Guys, you are both correct.

Acne is a chronic disease, accompanied by all those unpleasant manifestations, and even more. On the other hand, there can be occasional blemishes/pimples/zits that are not a sign of the disease, but rather a result of bad skincare routines, eating too much chocolate last night and other similar reasons. And, of course, puberty, but that entails a number of other factors.

And yes, pimples are often commonly referred to as acne, and vice versa, but technically there could be that difference.

Anyway, both cases may involve spot-on treatment. So, it all comes down to what the product/the text is for, e.g. if it's a product list for in-house use or a product lable/some other marketing stuff, what the product is for etc.

Erzsébet Czopyk Feb 9, 2016:
@Ilan strongly disagree. Acne is a specific illness - прыщи bezobidnie

у клиента есть целая лаборатория, работники которой владеют английским. Ответственные работники читают мои переводы и одобряют/не одобряют их. В штате переводчиков не держат, а тк работникам за переводы не платят, они их и не делают
Erzsébet Czopyk Feb 8, 2016:
logika? а клиент сам решает, что больше подходит - vas klient govorit po-anglijski?
Arabella Bishop (asker) Feb 8, 2016:

So the simple case is a zit or a pimple.
Light and mild acne (whiteheads and blackheads) requires regular care and beauty products.
Severe acne requires laser therapy and hormonal treatment.

BUT as we talking about a product name I would carefully avoid any words like zit, pimle or even acne, because beuty pruct is not medical product. So I suggest to use spot or blemish or a combination of two.

sorry for the typos, I wanted to underline that beauty products, even their product names, cannot SUGGEST that they offer care or a solution for a specific illness, so I would not use acne. I translated a court material regarding this so be careful. Good luck, Arabella

Dear Erzsébet, I completely agree with you on that. My client (a large beauty product manufacturer) once gave me a piece of advice to be careful with beauty product name translations to avoid legal arguments.

anti-pimple cream (or simpy: pimple cream)

would be my option

because whenever a pimple-related product is mentioned, one finds the term "cream"; so there is no Need for bothering about lotions, product etc.

acne remedy

Remedy might be a neutral alternative to the use of "cream", "gel" etc. if this is unknown or there's no reason to put stress/focus on the form.

I hope this helps.

Alternatively, the word "treatment" could be used, and so could "spots".

"Treatment/remedy for acne/spots".

I think all are just as valid and suitable.

Thanks. I guess acne is something we've all been able to relate to some time in our lives.
