Context Rick - thank you for yr answer! I was in such a rush that I forgot to add context. The cotext is in fact political and I had originally translated it with protection but was sure there was a better way of putting it - legal protection is much better! However, the part which really stumped me was "rivendicare" - I don't particularly like revindicate, and know what it means but can't think of an ideal way to say it in English...

if you are talking about child custody...

it would be "retain custody" or "retain guardianship".

Otherwise, if you are talking about something political, it would simply be \"legal protection\".

If the legal protection is something that was never lost, but needed to be fought to keep, I\'d use retain. If, however, the legal protection was something that was once had, then lost, I\'d use reclaim.

Cheers.
