Discussion

Rutie Eckdish Jan 30, 2009:
Is it for a Jewish service or a non-Jewish one? a Requiem is a Catholic service for the dead, usually with a musical service; Jews conduct a service at the grave site, as explained by Samantha: certain prayers said at the time of the internment that are all together “the service”, which is. The term in question can apply to a variety of services/prayers.

memorial prayer

or prayer for the dead

The memorial prayer is recited while the congregation stands. Ashkenazim call this prayer Kel Maleh Rachamim / קל מלה רחמים, while Sephardim call it Hashkavah / תפילת השכבה. Sometimes, the memorial prayer is also called Azkarah / תפילת אזכרה or Ashkavah / תפילת אשכבה. In some communities, especially among Sephardim, the memorial prayer is recited later, after the burial.

Thank you
agree Ron Armon : Also true. (Except typos in אל מלא רחמים)

Thanks. As to the typos - I kept the reference's original spelling, but that doesn't discredit the answer, does it? :)
neutral elli_fischer : Typo, not typos. It is quite standard to substitute a ק for and א or ה when writing a name of God. מלה is indeed misspelled.
