Just say that "for now, the economic recession in Israel isn't as bad as it is in Europe" I don't the word פוקד in itself is the most important thin in the sentence.
If you do want to keep it you can try something like "isn't as bad as the E.R. that has befallen/plagued Europe" or "the E.R under which Europe is currently struggling" or some other thing of this sort, but I really do believe that my first suggestion is the best in a factual text about economy.

: I rarely agree with more than one answer, but I do like this option too, it's quite poetic. Both yours and Hanni's suggestions sound natural. Which one is more appropriate would depend on the register/tone of the text.
