French term
certificat d'addition
French to English
Law/Patents
Law: Patents, Trademarks, Copyright
Art gallery contract
This is left in French and not translated or glossed in EU documents (eur-lex.europa.eu/LexUriServ/LexUriServ.do?uri=CELEX:52001XC0704(01):EN:HTML); however the grand-dictionnaire offers the translation "certificate of addition" and the definition: "Adjonction faite à un brevet originel couvrant une invention, et protégeant un perfectionnement apporté à cette invention. [CILF. - Commission des Sciences commerciales. - 1979]. "
As I am dealing with a French document to be translated into UK English, I'd be grateful for advice about whether the grand dictionnaire definition and translation only applies to Canada. I think I should follow the EU practice and leave the term in French, but wish to provide a gloss. Any comments?

Keep the French and use the English in ( ). I believe it's a safe translation.

improvement patent
patent of addition would be used for general supplementary items to a patent, but in your context there is clearly mention of improvements for which the given terminology exists in IATE

Thanks, SwissTell. The context I gave is from the Canadian website - are you confirming that this definition applies to the French (Fr) context as well? |
