'Caractère pelucheux (au toucher/visuel)' is one of the descriptors used in a consumer test of moisturisers.

Après application du fond de teint, le caractère pelucheux visuel semble en moyenne plus perçu avec la XXX. Seule 1 participante identifie un aspect pelucheux de la peau après application du fond de teint.
Au toucher, le caractère pelucheux est faible pour les 2 produits. Une sensation légèrement irrégulière semble perçue par 6 participantes.

The only translation I can find is 'fluffy', which obviously doesn't fit. I would be very grateful for any other ideas!

To confuse things, I have seen refs to materials such as velvet (which is actually a bit fluffy)......you can have fluffy cream though...I think!

Are you sure it's good? I only ask because it seems that "fuzzy" might fit, and some make-up bases do make the fine facial hair more prominent, which I hate! I specifically buy ones that don't do that Just curious...

I'm pretty sure 'pelucheux' is a GOOD characteristic --- it means that the skin feels nice to stroke. Almost 'silky' --- understandable if this is lost once you start plastering foundation on!

This link below refers to leather! but hey, the concept is the same, it really doesn't appear to me that we are talking silky here:

my logic here is that it comes in the same sentence as uneven texture:

As it makes me think teddybear, I too think fluffy, but I don't think that it's a good thing here - makeup is supposed to be matt & smooth....

maybe grainy even then if it's like a gommage.....which is essentially a mixture with bits, grains in to smooth the skin...

I'm not sure why I've got 2 disagrees below when clearly the cream is producing an uneven effect...yet based on those comments, how about a fibrous texture? we can't use fluffy as it's frequently used in a positive way for creams - meaning light and fluffy.

I found this link too, and I can see how the inside of a leather boot, for example, could be described as 'pelucheux' (as can the outside of a kiwi). But would this be a good or bad thing for skin?! 'Uneven' would make sense, but another word is used for this later in the sentence, so I imagine it would be different.
'Fluffy' still doesn't sound right to me. I have now asked the client for clarification so that hopefully we can clear this up!
The client got back to me quickly: Dans ce cas il s'agit d'un defaut de la creme qui réagit avec la peau en formant des petites "peluche" ou "grumeaux" comme après un gommage. So I'd say 'lumpy' would fit!

Personally, I am satisfied with 'lumpy', or 'bumpy'. Only half an hour until delivery!

disagree df49f (X) : pelucheux means qui fait des "pluches/peluches" comme un pull en laine - like shedding fluff, nappy (lumpy wouldn't work IMHO) - and it is most likely not a positive descriptor for a face cream :))

well, it's better than 'fluffy', anyway... Google shows that it is often used of apricots and peaches, so why not human skin?

Yes, that's an idea. I'm not absolutely sure whether 'pelucheux' is good or bad, though, and I think 'downy' would be good.

Just a guess - I wonder if they are getting at the idea of a texture like peach skin. It's not a great term I know, but maybe it'll kick off some brainstorming :-)

it’s left to you to choose what word to use. Fluffy runs in my dictionary but I checked it up and found it was used as to this contexts: a. softness b. texture c. lightness. IMO, as to the foundation cream, lightness is where fluffy is concerned with and the french word moussé came to mind. Soufflé is also a recognized word in English. These words serve to give the idea of a lathery lightness or something puffed up or gossamery.
As for the skin, texture is where fluffy “should” be concerned with. You could translate is as “filmy aspect of the skin’, “fuzzy aspect of the skin” if fluffy is a word that fails to capture the real picture.
