This is one possible explanation, but the meaning really depends on the context.... for the other interpretations i agree with Muriel.

religious rituals or Buddhist temple?
The performed 法事 during (or in) 道场 are a kind of religious rituals to save the soul of dead people. Such rituals can be performed in Buddhist/Taoist temples.
I often read "Buddhist temple" as an English translation for "道场" on the Internet.
Can this be helpful?

Temple
I am not quite sure, but the article of 一貫道 in wikipedia refers to their religious practice place as temple, so that could be the standard way of translating.

practice site or Dojo
Usually, a 道场 is a place where religious practitioners gather together for lectures, meetings, or practice. It doesn't have to be a society or an established religious building.
The more used word "dojo" comes from martial arts terms in Japanese, which is an approximate transliteration of 道场. Its origin has something to do with religion too.
