Just my personal opinion boost is something you do not do normally, it is not a routine procedure. it is something you do when you run out options.like 强心针

It seems to me that I need to make further explanations for the term “boosting”. Boosting is a technical jargon that indeed means to increase pressure. It is particularly used when initial pressure is low, e.g., atmospheric pressure. Similarly, we use the term “boost” when a patient or economy is weak. The term “boosting” occurred to me very naturally as I worked in chemical industry for quite a long time. However, I mentioned some dictionary entries just in an attempt to convince others. Now, let’s take a look at more dictionary entries as follows:

升压 – step up, boost, boosting

(As you may see, the above two dictionaries have not mentioned “pressure increasing” or “increasing pressure” at all although they are not wrong.)

3. Longman Contemporary English-Chinese Dictionary:
Boost - tech, to increase (esp. the supply of electricity or water) in force, pressure, or amount
Booster - tech, an apparatus that help to increase force, power or pressure

Booster –
Boosting -

Now, if we search "pressure boosting operation", "pressure" + "boosting operation" or "boosting operation" on the internet, we will find that the term “boosting” is very commonly used to express “increasing pressure” in relevant technical documents and patents. Let’s just look at one example. Please see page 2 at

Methane Gas Boosting and Conveying
ROTARY SCREW GAS COMPRESSOR ENDS
Gardner Denver Rotary Screw Gas Ends are used in CBM collection pods for conveying raw methane gas, or gas line boosting to a sales supply line. These rotary screw compressors are capable of vacuum or pressure boosting up to 350 psig for gas delivery to a central processing facility.

Joyce, if you have any further questions, please feel free to ask. Thank you!

Joyce, here is my translation of the entire sentence for your reference:

Pressure vessels with a quick-actuating closure should be equipped with a safety interlocking device that meets the following requirement: having such an interlocking control function that pressure boosting operation can not be started until the quick-actuating closure reaches the predetermined closing position.
