español term

JUL

español al inglés Mercadeo Mercadeo / Estudios de mercado
El método se logró por primera vez en 1929 en Alemania y en 1932 en los JUL.
Presumably, JUL is related to the USA, but what exactly does it mean? Any help would be appreciated, Thank you!

Please let us know if you ever find out...it's not every day we're stumped ;)

Thanks all!!!!

I think you can close it without grading, or you can contact one of the moderators Parrot or Bill Greendyk...Good luck!
Non-ProZ.com Jun 22, 2004:
ok, I think I will 'knock this one one the head' so to speak - any ideas how I can delete this query, anyone? Once again, many many thanks for all your help!
Carlos Diaz de Leon Jun 22, 2004:
I am certain you are right. Why remains elusive, but they are definitely using it as a synonym for United States (as I had said before, perhaps despectively)
Henry Hinds Jun 22, 2004:
Great mystery, I also saw the site, can't figure it out...
Non-ProZ.com Jun 22, 2004:
Thanks all, but I am still convinced that JUL refers to US
LCK Jun 22, 2004:
it actually sounds like the translation you are working on???? what are the odds?
LCK Jun 22, 2004:
Hi chaac, I found a reference in Spanish that mentions the fertilizers and guess what else "JUL" :-) don't if it will help you, but here it is: http://www.futurodecuba.org/La Industria de Fertilizantes.ht...
Non-ProZ.com Jun 22, 2004:
Thanks, carlosdl - I think the fact that so few people have even heard of this, makes me question the validity of 'JUL'. Thanks very much for trying.
Carlos Diaz de Leon Jun 22, 2004:
Indeed, as you mentioned, I have found several occurrences on the Internet. Apparently, they all refer to the U.S., as a country, as JUL. However, I do not know if it is meant despectively, or what exactly it stands for. I'll keep looking, good luck!
Non-ProZ.com Jun 22, 2004:
I agree with you :-) - I have checked in every imaginable dictionary - to no avail. Thanks, anyway!
Susana Galilea Jun 22, 2004:
Yes, I scratched that...this one is a challenge :)
Non-ProZ.com Jun 22, 2004:
Thanks, Susana - although, I think that an island is somewhat unlikely.
Non-ProZ.com Jun 22, 2004:
A brief history of the Fertilizer Industry...
I have seen other occurrences on the internet too, they all seem to refer to the US in some way...
Henry Hinds Jun 22, 2004:
What are we talking about? More context would be needed in order to find an answer.

I presume JUL stands for a country, since they mention Germany in 1929 and JUL in 1932.
I hope it helps you as an orientation.
Good luck

You're most likely correct in your assumption. Some 25+ documents consulted bear you out.
