heme cast formation

English to German Medical Medical (general)
Aus einem medizinisch-pharmazeutischen Patent zur Prävention von Nierenschäden.

EN:
Furthermore, there was no evidence of renal morphologic injury as evidenced by either PAS or H&E staining.

In particular, no evidence of tubular necrosis or heme cast formation was apparent in the treatment group (see FIG. 8).

The proximal tubular brush border as depicted by PAS staining, remained entirely intact (upper 2 panels).

In this regard, brush border blebbing and swelling into proximal tubule lumina are judged to be highly sensitive light microscopic markers of tubular damage.

'Heme' alternatively 'haem' means 'Häm' not necessarily 'Hämoglobin/hemoglobin'. The central molecule 'heme/Häm' is part of both hemoglobin and myoglobin as well as various enzymes.

heme casts

Heme (American English), or haem (Commonwealth English, both pronounced /hi:m/ HEEM), is a precursor to hemoglobin, which is necessary to bind oxygen in the bloodstream. Heme is biosynthesized in both the bone marrow and the liver.
:
Degradation begins inside macrophages of the spleen, which remove old and damaged erythrocytes from the circulation.

Urinary casts are microscopic cylindrical structures produced by the kidney and present in the urine in certain disease states. They form in the distal convoluted tubule and collecting ducts of nephrons, then dislodge and pass into the urine, where they can be detected by microscopy.

Urinary casts are cylindrical structures composed of Tamm-Horsfall glycoprotein. Their shape derives from the renal tubules where they are formed, and the protein base can incorporate cells or other material. Hyaline casts contain only protein and can be found in low numbers in healthy people; their numbers may increase transiently after exercise or dehydration. Persistently increased numbers are seen in many renal diseases.
