En un comentario bíblico donde se cuestionan algunas de las traducciones/versiones del griego al inglés, por considerarlas erróneas gramatical y doctrinalmente, se emplea la expresión "running gun-battle", en sentido figurado y quisiera saber cómo podría traducirla. Muchas gracias por su ayuda.

Me parece que "tiroteo en movimiento" no transmite la idea del esfuerzo permanente por recuperar/reconquistar el cristianismo genuino.

esfuerzo o lucha constante/permanente.
Me gusta la propuesta de Beatriz: gun-battle es balacera/tiroteo (literalmente), De traducirlo literalmente se incurriría en lo que temes. No obstante, "running gun-battle" no es parte del versículo, sino un comentario sobre el versículo, así que no forma parte de la traducción a la que te refieres con "se cuestionan algunas de las traducciones/versiones del griego al inglés, por considerarlas erróneas gramatical y doctrinalmente,".
Sustituir balacera o tiroteo por batalla está muy bien, porque se entiende perfectamente en español que se trata de "4. f. Esfuerzo que se hace para resistir a una fuerza hostil o a una tentación, para subsistir o para alcanzar algún objetivo." (https://dle.rae.es/lucha?m=form) que es la definición realmente de LUCHA. De ahí que yo optaría por hablar de lucha o de esfuerzo permanente o constante en lugar de batalla.

Como puedes ver, running gun-battle es un comentario del versículo y no parte de la traducción de dicho versículo.
