In your particular protocol: pts who failed the regular Crohn's treatment regimens are offered a regimen of higher doses or a regimen of a combination of medications/treatments in order to "intensify" the treatment.

Note that in some cancer protocols, "intensification therapy" is part of the regular treatment and does not necessarily mean that the pts had failed the regular treatment.
