Is it the same as "to play into (someone's) hands"?

If you don't think so, please explain why not. If possible, provide an alternative (hopefully idiomatic) translation with at least one reference. Thank you.

Discussion

Muriel Vasconcellos Jul 29, 2021:
@Oliver I see. An idiom in Portuguese but not not to much in English.
Oliver Simões (asker) Jul 29, 2021:
@Muriel I consider it idiomatic enough in the sense that we don't say "jogar o jogo" (play the game) in PT-Br but "fazer o jogo". It's somewhat odd that we say "fazer o jogo" when we actually don't "do" or "make" the game, we play it! It's not quite literal as far as I can see.
Muriel Vasconcellos Jul 28, 2021:
Not an idiom? The English equivalent is a literal translation. The meaning is so clear that it might not be considered an idiom at all.
Oliver Simões (asker) Jul 28, 2021:
@Mark Thank you for clarifying. It makes sense. :-)
Mark Robertson Jul 28, 2021:
@Oliver Fazer o jogo de alguém is WADR, not the same as "to play into someone's hands". "To play into someone's hands" means to be duped by someone. Fazer o jogo de alguém/to play someone's game means to let them think they are duping you, when you are in fact duping them.
