German term

abgestimmte Durchsetzungsmaßnahme

German to English Law/Patents Business/Commerce (general) Dieselgate VW Vera Jourova
In a newspaper article on Dieselgate:

Jourova betonnte mit Verweis auf ein Treffen mit Vertretern von Verbraucherschutzbehörden in der vergangenen Woche, die Vorbereitung einer "abgestimmten Durchsetzungsmaßnahme" werde in der Frage "immer wahrscheinlicher".

Would "coordinated enforcement action" be appropriate here?

Thanks :)

Anytime.

PS
lanuage = language

This is what you get for trying out your HDMI cord on your TV - too fascinated by the sheer size of your new screen...

Have a nice evening, both of you

No worries Björn :) Thanks for your help!
Björn Vrooman Feb 14, 2017:
PS @Robyn I hope I wasn't too curt or anything. I merely wanted to support your suggested translation, so you could close the question before we get a thesaurus.com list (used to be quite a common occurence here).

I agree with Ramey that your "coordinated" is a good choice and because it's a direct quote and, as shown below, the EU uses the exact same lanuage, there's no need for any other options.

Not sure about Ramey's opinion, but me thinks "tuned" sounds awkward.

@Robyn First Google link for your suggestion:

First one if you add VW:
"Such practices as mentioned in Box 8 are not isolated instances and will continue occurring again without stepped-up, coordinated enforcement. The on-going issues regarding the deceitful emissions software installed by Volkswagen in its diesel cars show that up till now authorities reacted much differently, as the Italian competent authority has already launched an investigation while most other authorities do not have possibilities to act as the infringement is finished (see the section on short-lived infringements above) or as they have different views on the need to act."

Not always reliable, but worth a look http://iate.europa.eu/SearchByQuery.do;jsessionid=Wcw3C_M6qM...
Durchsetzungsmaßnahme = enforcement action
If you use any other forum, please mention this - there is no need to reinvent the wheel.

No worries, I will :)

Good instincts! Still, I would wait and see what other colleagues think, as I am not a legal translator. Your translation simply makes complete sense.
Robyn Auer (asker) Feb 13, 2017:
Thanks, Ramey! Just wanted to make sure - one of these days I'll start trusting my instincts. Then again, my instincts say always double check terms that are "legal" in any way...

Thanks for the welcome :)
Ramey Rieger (X) Feb 13, 2017:
Yes, Robyn I believe it would. Welcome to kudoz!
