Marine fouling – equipment operation
Marine fouling can consist of a number of separate/simultaneously
occurring issues, including soft and hard marine growth as well as the
build-up of calcareous deposits, particularly between mated components.
Such growth can be difficult to remove and can even result in damage to
the equipment if excessive force is used in trying to de-mate components
that are effectively cemented together by calcareous deposits.
Typically, marine growth is only a significant problem in relatively shallow
water, and calcareous deposits seem to occur in some particular
geographical locations more than others.
Abrasive brushing equipment and acid wash equipment might be needed
to restore sufficient functionality before attempting to actuate/de-mate
affected equipment.
