Rather than disrupting a voluntary task, it appears as if fragments of movements intrude; in some cases there is a loss of tone, known as “motor impersistence,” which appears to be due to lapses in the ability to perform the desired action. This phenomenon of inability to sustain a posture results in the “milkmaid’s grip” and the “trombonist’s tongue.”
