Hi,

I'm using Trados 7.5.0756 on Win XP, MS Office 2003.

Here's my problem: I'm translating a financial report containing thousands of instances of this pattern:
"X.XXX% due mm/dd/20xx"

The problem is that Trados only saves 1 instance for each date, ie if only the "XX.XXX%" part differs, Trados recognizes this segment as 99%, not as 100%, even after being saved in the TM.

For instance, if I have previously saved this segment in the TM: "3

Hi,

The problem is that Trados only saves 1 instance for each date, ie if only the "XX.XXX%" part differs, Trados recognizes this segment as 99%, not as 100%, even after being saved in the TM.

For instance, if I have previously saved this segment in the TM: "3.500% due 22/05/2010", and that this one appears later in the document :"4.000% due 22/05/2010" (same date, different %), I only get a 99% match. Now, if I save this "new" segment in the TM, and open it again, it still appears only as 99%. This would be great if the % was different, but that's not the case.

"Multiple translations" option is enabled in the TM.

Any help appreciated.

Thanks

No solution, but Apr 11, 2006

you could try wordfast. In my experience Wordfast handles such cases very intelligently. I have the same problems when I have to use trados, perhaps someone knows a solution within Trados?

Heinrich

Maybe a solution Apr 11, 2006

Hi,

Is "Apply placeable penalty also when source tags differ" checked?

(This can be found in Options > Translation Memory Options > tab Penalties). That might be the reason. I'm just guessing, though.

HTH,
Jero

Thanks, but no, the box is not checked Apr 11, 2006

Hi,

Thanks for your answers.
No, the box "Apply placeable penalty also when..." is not checked.

I might be able to find a workaround with Word's search-replace function, but if someone has a better solution, I would really appreciate!

What does the status line say? Apr 11, 2006

Hi Éric,
Does the status line of the Workbench window indicate a fuzzy match, or is there a penalty indication?

Best regards,
Ralf

99% Fuzzy Match Apr 11, 2006

Hi Ralf,

Here is the message shown in the status line: "99% Fuzzy Match".

Just in case, here are the penalty settings:

Formatting... - 1
Attribute and Text... - 2
Placeable differences... - 2
Alignment penalty... - 3
Machine Translation... - 15
Multiple translations... - 0

"Apply placeable penalty" unchecked.

Any help still appreciated...

Numbers localisation checked? Apr 11, 2006

Hi again,
Another stab in the dark, admittedly: Options - TM Options - Substitution Localisation - is Numbers activated?

Best regards,
Ralf

Yes, it is Apr 11, 2006

Yes, "Numbers" is checked.

I actually found a workaround with Trados "colors" when pretranslating and Search-Replace + regular expressions in Word, but if anyone has another suggestion, it could be nice for next time!

Regards,

Eric
