I have a recurrent problem with the files from a certain customer (Word files, I think they are imported from DTP-files) : the Word files are full of this special character ¬ (Alt+0172) which apperas in the middle of words overall the document.
"Search and replace" have no effet : no match found. It is very annoying, and in TagEditor it appears as a tag which breaks the words in 2 or 3 parts.

Would you know how to remove this character other than manually, either in Word or in Tageditor? Is it possible in TagEditor to do "Search and replace" for a tag?

Many thanks in advance!

Do you have the original Word file? Oct 12, 2008

If yes, use Search&Replace there, replace the "discretiionary hyphen" (this is the sign you are searching) by nothing.

Otheriwse open the TTX in Notepad and search for <ut DisplayText="x1f"></ut> and replace this with nothing.
Save the file and reopen it in Tageditor - now all hyphens should not be present anymore.

Well, this German name is not conform with Word Oct 12, 2008

because in Word it is not called "optionaler Bindestrich", but "bedingter Trennstrich", at least so in my Word 2003.

Thank you very much. Jun 10, 2012

Four years later your answer is still valued very much. I just eliminated 467 of those.
