just curious (and for reference) is there a rule about this? in China? elsewhere?

I have noticed sometimes in Kudoz people say, 'leave as it is' ie leave it in its romanised form. I can understand it for registered trademarks, but is there some other 'professional practice'operating amongst translators in general that I am not aware of?

what are people generally doing, transliterating or not? I think I saw some discussion somewhere on it, possibly in the IT kudoz, where the asker in that case replied that it (a company name) couldn't be left as it was in English because the client required to be transliterated.
