Beer can take you to some strange and unexpected places. On Sunday I was in the sweaty backstreets of Baishizou, a faintly dodgy suburb in Shenzhen, southern China, visiting a cramped and not necessarily fully legal microbrewery on the ground floor of a somewhat scrubby apartment building. My mission: to help the brewery’s owner, a former US military man called Joe Finkenbinder, and another American brewer, Dave Byrn of the Pasteur Street brewery in Saigon, make the first ever Sino-Vietnamese collaboration beer, a black gose called Disputed Waters. La birra può condurti in luoghi strani e inaspettati. Domenica mi trovavo tra i vicoli umidi di Baishizou, un quartiere vagamente losco di Shenzhen, nella Cina meridionale, a fare visita a un microbirrificio angusto e non necessariamente del tutto legale situato al piano terra di un edificio piuttosto fatiscente di appartamenti. La mia missione: aiutare il proprietario del birrificio, un ex militare statunitense di nome Joe Finkenbinder, e un altro birraio, Dave Byrn del birrificio Pasteur Street di Saigon, a produrre la prima birra mai nata da una collaborazione sino-vietnamita, una gose nera chiamata Disputed Waters.

After working in many different positions, especially in the tourism field, having the opportunity to develop a broad range of skills, I decided to devote myself to my lifelong passion, which is translation. So, I went back to university and now I am working as an interpreter and translator in the immigration field and I am specialising in the translation of texts of the brewing and tourism industry.
